6th Annual Salute from the Shore

Posted by Dunes Real Estate on Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 at 10:18pm.

Are you going to be on Hilton Head Island for the Fourth of July this year?  If so, don’t miss this big event on our beaches – the 6th Annual Salute from the Shore. Join locals and visitors on the beach for this military flyover that stretches the entire length of South Carolina’s coast. Salute from the Shore is a unique opportunity for you, your family and friends to salute our armed forces while celebrating Independence Day on the beach.

Hilton Head 4th of July

The F-16’s are back this year!  Two F-16’s from the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base will begin the flyover promptly at 1:00 pm.  They will cover the entire coast, circling Patriot’s Point in Charleston before concluding their run south to Hilton Head at approximately 1:46 pm.  The F-16’s will be followed by vintage military aircraft.  Because of the large number of vintage aircraft involved and their different flight speeds, the planes will be grouped according to speed.  This will give everyone on the beaches a longer experience.  There will be other flights of planes that will be visible at different times and different points along the coast, but all should be visible between 1:00 and 2:00 pm.

If you have never experienced this unique event, don’t miss it this year. Wear your red, white and blue, bring your flags, and be sure to take pictures to submit to the Salute from the Shore website. To see pictures from past years and updated schedules of times the planes will fly over Hilton Head’s shores, go to www.saultefromtheshore.org. See you on the beach on the 4th!

After a fun day on the beach, enjoy dinner and fireworks from several locations on the Island.  At Shelter Cove’s HarbourFest, you can enjoy dinner at many of the harbourfront restaurants and watch the fireworks right from your seat at the restaurant.  For a really different view of the fireworks at Shelter Cove, book a cruise on the Fireworks Cruise Boat.  This 2.5 hour cruise includes a Dolphin Eco Tour with the added bonus of viewing the fireworks display.  This cruise is extremely popular so be sure to book early.  The number to call for bookings is 800-686-6996.

Other popular dinner and fireworks spots are Skull Creek 4th of July Celebration at the North end of the Island.  Fireworks are shot from a barge on the Intracoastal Waterway and can be seen from Hudson’s on the Docks, The Chart House and The Boathouse restaurants.

Harbour Town in Sea Pines at the South end of the Island has had a fireworks display for over 20 years.  This is a family friendly, child oriented evening at the famous Harbour Town Marina & Lighthouse.

Wherever you spend the 4th, and however you celebrate it, have a safe and happy 4th of July!
